About Me
What a long, wild ride so far...
I have always been an active kid, and played several sports throughout my life. Exercise was always important to me, and helped me with my ADHD. I knew I always wanted to do something in the health field, but wasn't sure what. When I graduated high school I wanted to be a police officer, so I went through the police academy, and got involved with teaching self defense courses. I decided to switch to the health field and completed my undergraduate degree in clinical exercise science and nutrition. I started in cardiology and cardiac rehab as a clinical exercise specialist, and later a clinical exercise physiologist. I had the privilege of working with the president of the American College of Sports Medicine, and some of the top cardiologists in the country. I also obtained my certification as a personal trainer, strength and conditioning specialist and nutritionist at the time. I love cooking and worked as a chef at an upscale steakhouse while working in these other fields.
We moved down south and began a new adventure in the beautiful Appalachian mountains. I was a chef and opened a restaurant, while also working as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. I started another business where I provided in-home personal training and private chef services. I also became a fitness director, aquatic director, aquatic therapist, self defense instructor, bootcamp instructor, and wrote health articles for the newspaper. I decided that I had accomplished as much as I could with the knowledge that I had and applied for graduate school. I obtained my Doctorate in physical therapy and opened a physical therapy clinic. We had two kids and adopted a dog while in Virginia, and decided to move back to Michigan to be closer to family.
After moving back to Michigan things did not slow down! We had our third kid, rescued our second dog, and life started to get even crazier. I started working for a great physical therapy company and I am a clinic director and owner of a physical therapy clinic. I am a professor at a local University. I conduct research into the most optimal nutrition and exercise regimens, which I present at large national conferences across the country. I also present unique information for numerous professional organizations, such as the Arthritis Foundation. I am a self defense instructor, and teach my own self defense course all over the country. I partnered with the Girl Scouts and their program "Tough Enough" to teach millions of girls around the world about safety and self defense. I am the team trainer for a professional sports team in Detroit, as well as a semi-pro soccer team. I help train and coach professional athletes about their nutrition and exercise routines. I help students as a clinical instructor, mentor other physical therapists, and specialize in a variety of treatment techniques. I am a pelvic health specialist, lymphedema, LSVT BIG for Parkinson's disease, and several other specialties. I also coach my kids soccer, football and basketball. I love working with people and like to have fun with my patients. I am always cracking jokes and using humor to help people feel better.
I have three kids that also keep me busy! We take them on a lot of trips so they can see the country. From the age of three I would take them on camping and backpacking trips where they would hike 20 miles and sleep in the wilderness for a couple days. They love every second of it! We explore, have fun and connect in nature, and through all of their sports. I love backpacking in remote areas, like the Appalachian mountains and even deserted islands just to get back to nature. Taking care of a house, kids, jobs, and myself is a lot of work. I do not have the luxury of going to the gym to workout for hours like I used to. Now I need an effective and extremely efficient exercise program to stay in shape and set a good example for my kids. So that is what I set out to do with some of my research.
That brings us here: Connelly Health and Wellness. After everything I have done, I want to be able to reach a larger audience to help more people than ever before. I have accumulated a wealth of knowledge over the years, and I want to use that to help people. I have conducted research studies, and worked with some of the world's leading experts in health and fitness to discover some of the most time efficient and effective nutrition and exercise routines ever studied. I am now bringing that to you. I want to help you achieve your goals in the time that you have. Whether you want to lose weight, build muscle, get a new nutrition plan, exercise plan, or prevent injuries, I am here for you. I also offer virtual and in-person self defense courses, which has always been very important to me- especially now as a father. Our time on this planet is precious, and you don't need to waste countless hours counting calories, going to the gym, meal planning, and not enjoying your life. Let me help you!
Sincerely,
Sean Connelly

The picture on the left is me after our third kid was born. I was working out 5 days a week following the traditionally recommended strength training regimens by the big national health associations. After being an athlete my entire life, my world changed when we started having kids and I was working several jobs. I lost muscle and gained weight!
The picture on the right is working out 4 days a week for 10-30 minutes each day! I have been performing research with some of the top exercise and nutrition experts in the world, which is now changing the way people live. Exercise shouldn't be so time consuming that we skip it entirely. It needs to be efficient, effective and optimal. Now I exercise so I can chase my kids around and stay active with them!
